On March 20th, the Sun left the watery realms of Pisces. It returned to the first sign of the Zodiac, fiery Aries, which also means this is the astrological new year, as well as the Equinox, and what we’ve come to know colloquially as Astrology Day!
It’s a major turning point of the year and one that brings fresh starts, new beginnings, and a time to celebrate the cosmic cycles and sacred practice of studying the movement and patterns of the celestial spheres.
WHY IS THE EQUINOX-SOLSTICE CYCLE IMPORTANT IN ASTROLOGY? |
The Solstices and Equinoxes are vital to Western astrology. They are the anchor points around which the seasonal year turns and mark where they change. The zodiac is organized around these days, dividing the yearly cycle into equal sections between these four main turning points. These days always coincide with when the Sun moves into a Cardinal sign. They are crucial turning points because they mark the growing and fading of the sunlight, the ratio of light to dark, as a cyclical process each year. It is emblematic of the Earth’s fundamental cyclical relationship with the Sun and, therefore humanity’s symbolic relationship with celestial rhythms and patterns.
